![]() I also rebuilt the windshield but mine is a walk through and has three windows and let me tell you it gave me fit's trying to get it to fit and work correctly. Dont freak out when you go to get any new Silicon Bronze fasteners for anything you plan on replacing or repairing because there exspensive and thats what I was told to use by the pro's on this site. ![]() I also replaced 40 of the frames "ribs" steamed white oak. Not sure where your located but I could take some pictures and send them via email or if your close you could come and look at them. They are a back to back setup with a walk through and flip up section for storage. White 1963 I have what I beleive are the original seats to this boat. I just did a pretty healthy restoration on a 19" E. If he can't do your boat he may be able to suggest someone close to you. It's a small boat and shouldn't cost much but they can give you a wealth of information and give a better Idea of where to start.Īround here I would call Greg Group because he does woodenboats. The screws and nails might need replaced or tightened.Īctually the FIRST thing you should do is contact a marine surveyor who does woodenboats and have your boat evaluated. ![]() Remove a couple of the fasteners to check for corrosion. Use a heatgun and pull type scraper(not a putty knife) to remove the paint that's covering the fasteners. You might want to remove the deck to do work on the rest of the boat up in the bow area and check for rotted frames and king plank, etc.ĭon't strip all the paint off the outside. I'd fill the holes and paint if the wood is still good. The floorboards were originally cheap 1/4 inch plywood, painted(save the old one's for patterns).Ī varnished deck looks better but wood to replace the holed one might be expensive. Those seats aren't original, the original were probably wood. The engine on the boat is an old Merc 400.not sure what to do with that. ![]() ![]() (iii) I need to built some seats - anyone have any designs in mind that woudl be appropriate? These are just a few.I have a 100 more.Īlso, I found an old thread () where people were discussing the EM White lapstrake and would particularly love to hear from them (also intrested in some history of the boat). A couple of initial questions: (i) the deck is plywood but has a lot of holes from the covering that was on it - am I better off preparing this for paint or can some fix be used to varnish it? (ii) what is my best bet for floor boards? It had cheap plywood in it that I ripped out. My first idea is to starting stripping all the paint to evaluate the integrity of everything (using the silent paint remover), but I'd love to hear from people with some experience with the White boats (or Lymans generally since they appear to have a similar construction). I am excited but not really sure where to begin. I spent this past weekend towing it to my house and ripping a lot of the upholstry off. It also is missing the original toe rails. The hull is solid, but unfortunately there is a lot of after market items put on it (such as an upholstred/canvas deck and some really bad marine upholstry seats). Hi everyone - first-time post here for a first-time boat purchase and restoration project. ![]()
